It looks like this update will help the photo-sharing app position itself as being a place where users can search for real-time events and moments.
The question that everyone may have in mind now is if this new update will be a threat to Twitter. Many analysts seem to believe so, as Instagram is an important competitor to the famous social networking site.
Well, the new update will transform the Explore page into a place where users can see Trending Tags. Until now, the Explore page was used by people to see users they followed and things they liked.
To be mentioned that the most targeted posts are still there, bellow the new Trending Tags bar.
This update is probably a service that Twitter always wanted to offer. "This is our North Star—what we’ve been shooting for all along," has declared Kevin Systrom, Instagram cofounder and CEO. "It’s a real-time visual pulse for what is happening in the world," he continued.
When pressing the magnifying glass placed to the left of the center "camera" button, users will now have three ways to surface content.
At first, the photo-sharing app will highlight trending places in a box across the top of the screen. The app will present the most attention-getting events, but also things that are near the user, like bars and restaurants.
Secondly, people will be able to scroll sideways with the purpose to see curated collections of photographs that Instagram has collected from the most popular users on the app.
And the third way to surface content, the one that has been available until now, will remain the same, surfacing compelling posts. To be mentioned that Instagram’s new design will let users move from one photo to the next, without being forced to return to the Explore page.
"With more than 70 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every day, wherever something is happening, chances are you can see it here," Instagram has posted on its blog after introducing the new features.
So, it seems that Instagram's purpose in introducing this new app was making it much easier for people from all over the world to discover new places. The new features allow users to search for photos taken at specific locations, including small cites or some national parks.
This might mean that users looking for new travel destinations will be charmed by the results they will find on Instagram. The app might even become the top place for finding travel destinations, or at least this seems to be something that it aims.
Instagram 7.0 is already available, but the Explore features are US-only for now. However, the photo-sharing app assures its users that it is working on introducing the new features globally. Users seem to already like the brand new options available for them in the famous app.
