Micromax Canvas Music A88 - Full Specifications

Canvas A88 comes up with a 4.5 inch multi touch TFT screen with  pixel density of 854 x 480. It has a 1Ghz dual core mediatek MT 6577 processor, 5MP primary camera and a front facing 0.3 MP secondary camera. It is a dual sim phone comes in with android ( Jelly Bean ) OS, 512MB ram ,4gb of internal memory and an expandable memory of 32gb. It supports 3g, Wifi, bluetooth 4.0 and it also comes in with a 18000 mAh battery.

To begin with the phone looks pretty decent but the design isn't pretty extraordinary, infact it looks similar to all other canvas phones. It seems that micromax is inspired by the korean giant samsung when it comes to reusing the old design. The design of the phone is very much similar to canvas 3d but it's not that bulky when compared to canvas 3d. The phone fixes nicely in the hands and there is no problem to reach the top and bottom of the screen. On the right we have the power sleep buttons and on the left we have the volume rocker button and on the top we have a 3.5mm universal jack. The back of the phone houses a 5MP camera and at the bottom we have a speaker.

Moving on to the display this one comes with the 4.5 inch multi touch TFT display with a resolution of 854 x 480. This is very low as compared to other competing devices at the same price range. It's not the resolution but the overall display is quite disappointing. For the beginners it looks a bit watched out and so on the colours and the contrast is not really great. Sunlight legibility is poor and the most disappointing part is the view angles. If you twist the screen you will find the colours getting distorted and screen goes dark.

Talking about the hardware micromax canvas music comes up with a 1Ghz dual processor and 512 MB of ram. It also has 4gb of internal memory which can be expanded to 32gb with the help of a microsd card. On the connectivity front options are pretty standard you have your Wifi , 3g and bluetooth connectivity.

The phone runs android jelly bean (4.1) out of the box and micromax had made certain tweaks that nothing can get used to it. The problem again here is the screen which kills certain UI elements by giving it a buggy look. When moving from one page to another we can see that there is no lag.

Moving to the photography section this phone comes up with a 5 megapixel camera with dual led flash. The picture quality is pretty average, the picture quality drops exponentially when the light drops. This is not a device for photography.

Build in player is capable of playing most of the video formats It also has  3rd party apps like MX player which allows you to play MKV files. As far as music playback is concerned micromax has bundled a pair of headphones to make the music experience better and it does work. This budget phone comes up with costly JBL headsets.

This phones comes up with a 1800mAh battery which easily lastly for a day. As far as the music playback is concerned it doesn't drain the battery much. Overall the battery life is pretty standard.

Wrapping Up - The Verdict

Micromax Canvas A88 is available at a price of Rs 8500 along with a JBL headset. As a standalone phone this is nothing great.

  • Disappointing Screen
  • Buggy UI
  • Lacklustre camera

  • Good build quality
  • Comes with a JBL headset
This is a best buy for those who are looking for a good music phone. We rate this phone with 3 stars out of 5.
